There are number of cool things that we gather throughout life and our living of it. Of course, what is ‘cool’ in one person’s eyes can be seriously uncool in another person’s eyes, so never forget that as you go through your life hungrily looking for things to collect. Still, much fun can be had in the gathering of it, though gathering certain intangible things may be even more fun.

For example, consider most any man or boy. Chances are good that he — at one time or another — has imagined himself up on stage wailing away on a guitar and jamming with some of the best bands in the world. Truthfully, he has almost no chance of fulfilling that fantasy but, if he works at it, has every chance in the world of at least getting a good Ibanez electric guitar that he can play on and continue to fantasize with.

For the most part, when men enter into serious relationships and the question of children begins to be considered very seriously, it would be hard to find any of them that would consider something as prosaic as baby bath tubs to be something that would be seriously cool. However, go see that man after his child has been born and he’s washed him or her in that tub and ask them then if it is cool.

Almost everything to do with this particular subject also has to do with our particular perspectives about cool and who decides just what is and isn’t. It’s when we let some outside style expert decide for us what we should consider cool that we begin to run into problems. It’s really more a matter of us appreciating the things that we’ve gotten and the pleasure they bring to us and others that matters most.

For instance, how may people actually think a brand-new GE oven is cool like a brand-new sports car would be? At first glance, the answer would be, probably not many. But this doesn’t take into account the reasons for why the oven is being gotten and how much pleasure it can bring to one or both in the relationship who’ve been cooking their food on a creaky old stove.

Perhaps a way of explaining how perspective works when it comes to things in life being cool or not is to consider how much emotional content is put into the item that has been gathered or collected or bought. For sure, most things in life that we accumulate we give no more than a passing thought to after a time, but there are certain things that we gather or accumulate that become extremely cool to us for most of our lives.

In the end, we really need to focus on our own definition of ‘coolness factor’ and what we apply it to. While things that we accumulate may not appear to be cool to others they can be the coolest things in the universe to us, such as the stove we worked to get or a guitar we’ve always wanted. As long as the emotional content and the sharing of our joy with others is present, it’s hard to see how something won’t be cool, truthfully.
